Summary

To coś więcej niż zbiór zeznań naocznych świadków。

To jedyne w swoim rodzaju głębokie i boleśnie przejmujące studium człowieczeństwa w obliczu wydarzeń, które zmieniły bieg historii i życie nas wszystkich。

If you are only ever going to listen to one audiobook in your life, I recommend it be THIS ONE。

This is a book everyone should read to understand what those went through on 9/11。 I couldn't read many pages at a time, it was too heavy。 However, it was hard to finish the last 100 pages。 It's various peoples accounts and I just couldn't focus once the initial destruction had occurred。 This is a book everyone should read to understand what those went through on 9/11。 I couldn't read many pages at a time, it was too heavy。 However, it was hard to finish the last 100 pages。 It's various peoples accounts and I just couldn't focus once the initial destruction had occurred。 。。。more

This book is so intense。 I love that it is largely written through quotes pieced together to tell this story。 It was at times hard to put down and then hard to pick back up。 So glad I read it。

This is a must read for anyone who remembers 9/11/01 and, more importantly, everyone who doesn’t。 I listened on Audible。

Should be required reading for history classes。 This is one I think you might want to listen to since there are so many different people talking。 It really gave you a sense of who people were。 It was so so good。

I cried almost everyday that I listened to this retelling of the worst day in modern American history。 The retelling of 9/11/2001 had to have been a very difficult task to wade through and I believe the author did an excellent job。 I had to take this audio in small bites。 It was so heart wrenching that I had to turn it off to gather myself around what I had just heard。 I remember this day as all who lived through it and feel great sadness for the loss of that innocence we Americans had until the I cried almost everyday that I listened to this retelling of the worst day in modern American history。 The retelling of 9/11/2001 had to have been a very difficult task to wade through and I believe the author did an excellent job。 I had to take this audio in small bites。 It was so heart wrenching that I had to turn it off to gather myself around what I had just heard。 I remember this day as all who lived through it and feel great sadness for the loss of that innocence we Americans had until then。 Listen or read but know that you can never not remember what you saw and heard。 。。。more

This book was absolutely incredible。 It took me longer than most to get through because it was 16 hours long, but also it really tugged on my heart and I often cried as I listened。 The result was that I needed to take breaks, sometimes up to a week before playing it again。 I listened to this on Audible and I wouldn’t recommend diving into this book any other way。 It’s an oral history of 9/11, taking the reader from the morning of September 11 all the way through the capture of Osama Bin Laden 10 This book was absolutely incredible。 It took me longer than most to get through because it was 16 hours long, but also it really tugged on my heart and I often cried as I listened。 The result was that I needed to take breaks, sometimes up to a week before playing it again。 I listened to this on Audible and I wouldn’t recommend diving into this book any other way。 It’s an oral history of 9/11, taking the reader from the morning of September 11 all the way through the capture of Osama Bin Laden 10 years later。 If you choose to listen to this on Audible, you’ll hear the audio from flight 93, listen to President Bush address the nation on the night of the 11th, and celebrate with President Obama as he tells the world Bin Laden has been killed。 45 different narrators tell stories from people who were in the World Trade Center when it fell, firefighters who ran into the building and survived, wives and husbands left at home wondering about their spouse who went to work that day, and children who lost a parent。 You’ll learn about the rescue efforts by everyday citizens who helped strangers in the aftermath such as the evacuation of Manhattan on ferries & private yachts with New Yorkers at the helm。 I enjoyed hearing from the every day heroes that have become famous after 9/11 such as the two policemen trapped in the rubble, William Jimeno & John McLoughlin, who were rescued after the towers fell, and the wife of flight 93 hero Todd Beamer。 However, I learned so much about September 11th that I didn’t know before and each story I heard was truly precious。 Everyone should listen to this at least once, but I imagine I’ll listen to it again in a couple years。 It is heartbreaking, but it’s also uplifting to see how people can support one another in a crisis。 At the beginning of the book I was questioning humanity, (like we all did that day) but at the end I knew I witnessed that love can conquer evil and I’m so proud to be an American。 。。。more

This book was so incredible that as soon as I finished listening to it, I started listening all over again。 This book is a collection of first hand accounts of the 9/11 attacks as experienced by all manner of people。 The accounts are very short, which gives it an unusual feel at the beginning, but they are woven together in such a way as to tell a detailed account of that day。 I have to say, even after watching a lot of news coverage and documentaries about that day, I hadn't really grasped the This book was so incredible that as soon as I finished listening to it, I started listening all over again。 This book is a collection of first hand accounts of the 9/11 attacks as experienced by all manner of people。 The accounts are very short, which gives it an unusual feel at the beginning, but they are woven together in such a way as to tell a detailed account of that day。 I have to say, even after watching a lot of news coverage and documentaries about that day, I hadn't really grasped the magnitude of 9/11 - particularly the emotional impact of the day and the enormity of the devastation surrounding the twin towers。 This book was a huge eye opener for me。 It's a very powerful book。 I highly encourage people to listen to the audio, rather than reading the book。 It's brilliantly produced with multiple narrators and also contains recordings of conversations from that day。 I did purchased the book as well, an illustrated edition。 I felt it was important to have this book in my home。 。。。more

6 stars。 Such an important book。 More thoughts to come。Disjointed thoughts below! Taking a page out of my students' books and am not gonna revise!*I know that people have visceral reactions when they think of 9/11, and for many, approaching a book of first person accounts of that day might be "too close。" But I implore you to read this (I actually recommend listening to it; with a 45 person cast and the interviews of over 500 people, it really is best on audio)。 I have not read other long-form a 6 stars。 Such an important book。 More thoughts to come。Disjointed thoughts below! (the answer is yes, you are, and it's ok)。 You may have moments when you cry。 But our roles as knowledgeable citizens of the world should trump our comfort, I think。So anyway。 Read it! 。。。more

I am just on page 100 or thereabouts。 It’s really a good book。 It’s written as conversations of people who were there。

Listened to audiobook and it was very well done with a huge cast of voices。 I’ll never forget where I was on 9/11 and watching it all unfold on TV。 So many brave people。 So much trauma。 So much death。 I hope to some day go to New York and see the memorial to pay my respects。

This was a DNF for me。 I think it would be a good book for the young adults who weren't born yet or were very young on that day。 A lot of it was very graphic and hard to read。 I stopped about halfway through。 I don't think it's poorly written, it was simply hard for me to get through。 This was a DNF for me。 I think it would be a good book for the young adults who weren't born yet or were very young on that day。 A lot of it was very graphic and hard to read。 I stopped about halfway through。 I don't think it's poorly written, it was simply hard for me to get through。 。。。more

Every American who lived though this day owes it to themself to read this book。 It’s not an easy journey。 You will relive that day and your memories of it。 I had moments of fear, dread, and I even had a nightmare while listening to the audiobook, but there were just as many moments of hope, love, and perseverance in this story。

Highly recommend the audiobook。 Cast of narrators that bring an added element of humanity to the oral histories included in this book。 Give yourself time to get through this book。 It shouldn't be consumed all at once as it's extremely emotionally powerful。 Give yourself the time to process。 Highly recommend the audiobook。 Cast of narrators that bring an added element of humanity to the oral histories included in this book。 Give yourself time to get through this book。 It shouldn't be consumed all at once as it's extremely emotionally powerful。 Give yourself the time to process。 。。。more

This memoir vividly paints the events on 9/11 for what it was - a declaration of war on our country。 I was in 2nd grade, and until now I never processed what it all meant to attack us, what it looked like to survive, and what it continues to do to us as we recover。 We should all listen。

This book will sit with me for the rest of my life。 An incredibly poignant, detailed, well-researched recapping of one of the greatest tragedies of our lifetime。 The amount of detail that has gone into retelling this story and providing every single perspective of the days events, has given new life to my understandings of 9/11。If you are able, consider listening to the audiobook version。 The 500+ interviews come to life with a 45 person cast。

I felt the format, where there are short sentences or paragraphs from various people scattered throughout under different chapters, made it too hard to keep track of any one person's story enough to get emotionally invested in the individual stories。 I would have preferred for it to be easily to follow one person's thread。 But for a general overview of all that was going on that day it is good。 I felt the format, where there are short sentences or paragraphs from various people scattered throughout under different chapters, made it too hard to keep track of any one person's story enough to get emotionally invested in the individual stories。 I would have preferred for it to be easily to follow one person's thread。 But for a general overview of all that was going on that day it is good。 。。。more

Twenty years later and the events of that day are still so painful。 This is an amazing achievement。 Graff interviewed so many people who were directly involved in the tragedy and presented it in a clear, concise minute by minute re-telling。 Highly recommended。

Wow! In my opinion "The Only Plane in the Sky" by Garret M。 Graff is a gripping, moving account of the events of 9/11/01。 The book jacket synopsis describes the book well。 The author's goal was to capture the emotions, reactions, tragedy, and heroism of that day。 He succeeds in spades! Certainly a compelling listen。 The individual narratives collected within are impressive。 It feels significant that they have been catalogued in some sense。 Together, they paint a stark image of the raw emotion that must have been felt on 9/11。 I think of this as a piece of historical work, and, as someone who does not read much history, I do not feel able to evaluate the book's significance。 Most books I read/listen to are pieces of secondary/tertiary literature, critically evaluating and summa Certainly a compelling listen。 The individual narratives collected within are impressive。 It feels significant that they have been catalogued in some sense。 Together, they paint a stark image of the raw emotion that must have been felt on 9/11。 I think of this as a piece of historical work, and, as someone who does not read much history, I do not feel able to evaluate the book's significance。 Most books I read/listen to are pieces of secondary/tertiary literature, critically evaluating and summarising evidence。 This book feels much closer to a piece of primary literature。 It is just a snapshot of 9/11。 Maybe that's not a bad thing, but it's perhaps a slightly dangerous thing - all the confusion, stupor, righteousness, fear, patriotism seep into you if you are not careful。I liked every second of it, but I can't tell if that is a good thing。 。。。more
